meeting + performance
The Lithuanian Culture Centre in Puńsk opened in 1956. Since its beginning, it has attracted singers, musicians, dancers and actors of barn theatres. People come to the Centre to attend lectures on various subjects and take part in chess and draughts tournaments. When they have a free evening, farmers read newspapers and listen to the Lithuanian radio in the Centre. Moreover, the Centre has organised exhibitions, meetings with writers, readings of fairy tales to children, and Lithuanian film shows. Nowadays, there are active eight teams, such as theatrical and dance groups, as well as a choir and a small ethnographic museum. The Culture Centre is also a co-organiser of the Festival of Barn Theatres.
The Centre “Borderland of Arts, Cultures and Nations” in Sejny was established in 1991. It closely cooperates with The Borderland Foundation established in May 1990. All the programme activities of both institutions focus on propagating the borderland ethos and bridge building between the people of various religions, ethnicities and cultures. The artistic work teams working at the Centre include: Sejny Theatre, Klezmer Orchestra of the Sejny Theatre and the editorial team of the Sejny Almanac.
